A Song of Searching for Comfort

Gnarls Barkley, the soul duo of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse, has released their third and final single from their second studio album ‘The Odd Couple’. The song is entitled ‘Who’s Gonna Save My Soul’ and it has been accompanied by an official music video which was directed by Chris Milk.

The track features a mellow beat, with CeeLo Green’s signature vocals floating over the top. The lyrics explore themes of loneliness and searching for comfort in times of despair. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, CeeLo said: “I think it’s about being honest with yourself, coming to terms with what you can expect out of life”.

The music video for ‘Who’s Gonna Save My Soul’ follows the story of a young girl who is trying to find her place in the world. She searches through different scenarios – a party, a church service, a hospital waiting room – but still feels like she doesn’t belong anywhere. Through these scenes we get glimpses into her inner turmoil as she struggles to come to terms with her loneliness.

The video also includes some subtle nods to Gnarls Barkley’s previous singles ‘Crazy’ and ‘Smiley Faces’, helping to bring the story full circle. As CeeLo puts it: “This video is really like a sequel or continuation of ‘Crazy'”.

Gnarls Barkley has once again delivered an emotionally charged track that speaks to our innermost thoughts and feelings. With its captivating visuals and melancholic yet hopeful message, ‘Who’s Gonna Save My Soul’ continues his legacy as one of the most innovative acts in modern music today.

According to Mojo magazine, Danger Mouse presented this track in demo form to Cee-Lo in a Venice hotel room, with the singer mulling over lyrics before recording it at a Cincinnati studio at a later tour stop.
