The Song “Juice” by Lizzo – Ivana’s goosebump moment

(text video)

“Hi, I’m Ivana, and I’m from Jakarta, Indonesia. My goosebump moment was back in 2019. I used to listen repeatedly to Lizzo. One of our songs is called “Juice”. Juice can not only mean a drink, it can also mean in other positive ways as beauty. The beauty of the body itself means that we have to love our body no matter what size. So what size or what clothes that we wear every day, especially with those who have insecurity both inside and outside. Lizzo wants to spread a positive good message with “Juice” for us as obese or overweight women to not care what people think about you, us. We shouldn’t compete with others, especially with teenage girls. Why teenagers can, but why we cannot do what they can. That was my goosebumps moment. Thank you.”

A Celebration of Self-Respect

With its catchy beats, playful lyrics, and unapologetic message, “Juice” by Lizzo has taken the music scene by storm. But its significance goes far beyond its infectious groove. Let’s dive into the deeper meaning and cultural impact of Lizzo’s “Juice.”

To fully appreciate “Juice,” it’s essential to understand the symbolism behind the title. The word “juice” gained a new layer of meaning in popular culture following the release of the 1992 movie “Juice.” In the film, four inner-city teens strive to attain “the juice,” which represents power and respect. Lizzo cleverly utilizes this association to infuse her song with a powerful message about self-respect and self-worth.

Throughout the song, Lizzo uses food and drinks as metaphors to convey her message of self-confidence and self-love. Lines like “No, I’m not a snack at all / Look, baby, I’m the whole damn meal” showcase her unapologetic embrace of her identity and worth. In doing so, she encourages listeners to view themselves with the same level of self-assuredness.

During an interview with Hoda Kotb on TODAY, Lizzo shared her personal connection to the lyrics of “Juice.” She revealed that the line “If I’m shining, everybody gonna shine” had become her mantra. This line encapsulates the essence of the song, emphasizing that self-love and confidence radiate positivity and empowerment to those around us.

Lizzo’s interpretation of her song’s message is profound. She explains, “It just speaks to everything. If I’m happy on the inside, then everyone’s gonna feel that joy that I have from the inside … It just motivates you to want to live a better, happier life, especially for the people around you.” This sentiment highlights the idea that self-love is not selfish; it’s a powerful force for spreading happiness and positivity in the world.

“Juice” has resonated with audiences of all ages and backgrounds, earning a special place in the realm of empowerment anthems. Its catchy tune and memorable lyrics have made it a favorite for dance floors and playlists alike. Moreover, Lizzo’s unapologetic embrace of her identity, body positivity, and self-confidence have made her a role model for many.
