The song “Older” by Sasha Sloan- Cherry’s goosebump moment
Cherry: “Hi, I’m Cherry from Hong Kong. My goosebump moment was when I listened to Sasha Sloan singing “Older” for the first time on a reality show. The reason why I got goosebumps is because her voice is so angelic and amazing, she sounds so perfect, even when she’s singing live. Another reason is that the song lyrics are so relatable to how I feel. This song talks about her younger self who didn’t understand why her parents argued a lot and didn’t understand the meaning of love, but when she gets older, she understands love is not as easy as she thought. I actually feel the same, because my parents used to argue sometimes and I didn’t understand why, but as I grew up, I understood that when you argue with your loved one, it doesn’t mean you really hate them, it is just how life goes. That’s why I got goosebumps when I listened to her song”.
A piano ballad called “Older”
“Older” is one of Sasha Sloan’s most popular songs that talks about the understanding that love is not easy and that our parents are imperfect human beings. Focusing on understanding divorce and her parents’ relationship, Sloan describes the simple truth about relationships: They are messy.
In this song the singer declares that no one has all the answers, and the older she gets, the easier it is to realize that relationships are complex, and all we can do is our best. A hopeful acceptance of the complexities of life that gives us goosebumps because it makes us reflect on the learning that allows us to grow and change our childhood thoughts.
“Older”, real life inspiration
Sasha Sloan released the song “Older” in 2018 in the pop music genre on an album titled “Loser”, after releasing her tracks “Chasing Parties”, “Faking It”, and “The Only”.
Sloan adds her own life experience to the song, proclaiming, “The older I get, the more I see / My parents are not heroes, they are just like me”.
She revealed in an interview that she always wanted to write about her parents’ divorce because it is a crucial part of her life, but it was too bitter.
However, “Older” reveals a messy situation from love, seen both from the center of the storm and from a safe distance years later.
Sasha Sloan’s real name is Alexandra Yatchenko and she is 26 years old. She is a Russian-American singer-songwriter who grew up outside of Boston and spent a great deal of time with her Siberian grandparents during the summer.
At the age of 3, her parents divorced and she found an escape in another world: Music. Because of her passion for the piano, she even wrote her first song at the age of 9.
At 19, she decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a songwriter, where she wrote “Dancing With Your Ghost”, gaining a large number of fans around the world and a large number of Chinese followers.
But even with some big hits under her belt, Sasha didn’t start her singing career right away. Collaborating with big names like Camila Cabello, Charli XCX, and Kygo, she finally paved her own way.
Her career has been inspired by female powerhouses like Amy Winehouse, Brandi Carlisle and Regina Spektor, and her music is often melancholic with her soft voice carrying listeners through.
